Role

Tim is a Senior Research Fellow in the Centre for Mental Health & Risk at the Institute for Brain, Behaviour & Mental Health. He is a member of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/advisory-council-on-the-misuse-of-drugs) and leads an MRC Addiction Research Cluster with a focus on quantifying addiction harms; see: http://www.britac.ac.uk/events/2010/addres/index.cfm

Research

Tim’s research focuses on addiction harm and the effectiveness of interventions designed to ameliorate harm. His research includes work to: evaluate the impact of Payment by Results as a commissioning model for addiction treatment; explore drug user mortality and the effect that treatment may have in reducing mortality risk; consider how drug use may be associated with crime and the impact of interventions to reduce drug-related crime; evaluate drug-treatment effectiveness; integrate secondary, health and criminal justice datasets on substance misuse; estimate the prevalence of opiate and crack cocaine use.
